Hart

His arms were like fire. So safe and comforting yet dangerous. They were thick with muscle, and I traced my fingers over them as we held each other on the couch. The silky hair on his arms felt so soft and comforting. The glow from the fireplace was just as beautiful as him. The red glow cast shadows as the flames flickered and popped the cord that was lit within. Lucas found a throw and covered us gently with it. It was a chilly night, and but I felt warm and cozy in his strong embrace, my head leaning on his chest as he stroked my unruly hair.

Jenny was thrilled that I wasn’t coming home. She sent me a bunch of eggplant emojis. She was seriously worrying me with her fixation on my sex life. I knew she wanted me to be happy. But I also knew it would be easier for her to go away this fall if she didn’t feel as if she were abandoning me. I just wanted her to find the life she had always dreamed of, whether it was finally here in The Pleasant or somewhere else. I was her big brother, and it was now my job to make sure she got on the path that she had planned for, no matter where it led.

It had been a fucked up yet fantastic day. The dichotomy of my day and night made my mind spin with myriad thoughts, filled with joy and fear. Just like the day I was split in two. Lucas made me want to forget about everything I found out. But I couldn’t just let It go. It was my life, and sadly more real than this could ever be. Lucas would leave. It was an inevitability. He had his own life to go back to, and that life didn’t include me. My job did. It was my world, and I felt it falling through my fingers and even if I gripped it tighter… Fate had not chosen me. The decision was someone else’s.

“What are you thinking about? You got so quiet,” his breath tickled me, and he leaned in and placed a gentle kiss upon my head.

I looked up at him. “What aren’t I thinking about is the better question right now. You… Me… You leaving eventually… I know that’s crazy, cause we just met, but I already can’t imagine this place without you. Is that weird?” I nestled into his chest, pressing myself firmly against him, his arm coming around and holding me, his fingers upon my stomach.

“I’m thinking about it too, Hart. You… God, you feel so good, right where you are. It’s all I can do to not ravish you right now. Do you know that?”

“Oh, trust me, I do… I’m… Jesus, Lucas. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted anything so bad. But I want it to… Not yet, okay? Can we just be like this tonight? You holding me… It’s more than I could have ever wished for.
